Tourism and Local Farm Production Together

Another exciting project in our area that opened in June this year is the Delta Muletrain Regional Market in Marks, MS.  Some of our producers, partners, and colleagues are involved in the project, which includes a museum, food court, art, mules, and history.

Video from Mississippi Public Broadcasting shows what’s happening.

Marks, MS is where a people’s caravan across the South began in 1968, as a response to Dr. King’s decision a year before to start the Poor People’s Campaign from this town. Jackson State University professor Dr. Hilliard L. Lackey’s book tells the story.

Clarksdale artist and Coahoma Community College instructor Rosalind Wilcox painted a commemorative mural for the project.

Look for the inaugural Mule and Blue Festival, coming up Sept. 28-Oct. 2, 2015.
